Asset Suggestions & Duplicate Detection

🎯 Problem

Asset libraries in enterprise CMS bloat over time with duplicate and similar assets. Content teams waste time searching through redundant content and often upload duplicates unknowingly.

🔍 My Approach

Started with extensive problem mapping using mind maps in FigJam to understand the complexity of duplicate detection scenarios and user workflows across different teams and use cases.

✅ Shipped: Asset Suggestions

Rather than building a full duplicate detection engine first, we shipped a simpler solution: suggesting relevant assets from the library based on content context. This provides immediate value by helping users find existing assets before uploading new ones. Similar approach to the "Suggested Linked Items" feature – leveraging semantic understanding to surface contextually relevant assets.

🔮 Planned (Postponed): Duplicate Detection

Designed a phased approach for full duplicate detection. Project postponed due to changed priorities, but the groundwork and designs are ready for future implementation.

• Background duplicate detection during upload (exact binary + semantic similarity)
• Asset library analysis to identify existing duplicates

🌱 Background

Originated from 2023 hackathon prototype that demonstrated the technical feasibility of duplicate detection using AI embeddings and similarity matching.
